Venture/Schnucks - Fairview Heights, IL
Former Venture/Schnucks store in Fairview Heights, IL First Venture in Illinois. 27,000 sq. ft.
Recently, Venture/K-Mart to right was demolished for new development. Opened in March, 1970. Closed as Schnucks in 1984. Replaced by 57,000 square foot store.
This was the first Venture in Illinois. It was the second Venture store to open actually. It also led to major development of the area, as the store existed before the mall across from it did. Also, fun fact, May Department Store who owned Venture also owned Famous-Barr, and were the ones who built the mall (St Clair Square) shortly after this Venture opened. The whole thing was torn down, and rebuilt, so there is no remnants at all there of Venture.
It was the first Venture in Illinois, as it was the second one ever built! The only one built before it was built in Missouri, and this Venture was built before St Clair Square mall! This was the first shopping location in all of Fairview Heights (the newly incorporated Fairview Heights in order to build this)!
